Mumble & murmur 1.1.3 gentoo overlay

On February 25th, version 1.1.3 of the free voice chatroom software Mumble was released. Mumble is open source and provides low latency, good voice quality and, starting with version 1.1.0, also full encryption and authentication for all client-server-communication. Mumble currently is available for Linux and MS Windows.

rt73 and Linux

I've just added a page on how to get Ralink-rt73-based WLAN devices to work with Linux and WPA2-EAP.

New layout, category overview

Finally I came around to making a version of this site's layout which is actually comfortable to use. I sacrificed one technical gimmick for it, but I think it's well worth it.

In addition, I created the category overview on the left, and the display of a entry's categories under its headline.

BCM43xx vs Linux (e.g. BCM4301, BCM4306, BCM4320)

To anyone who is looking for information on BCM43xx chip based W-LAN devices (e. g. the popular BCM4301, BCM4306 or BCM4320) wrt Linux: A proper (read: OSS) driver has already been written:

A Linux driver for the Broadcom bcm43xx wireless chips.

Broadcom never released details about these chips. So this driver is based upon reverse engineered specifications.

This driver was included into the Linux kernel since 2.6.17-rc2.

Newly-designed CPU utilization graph

Today, I spent some time redisigning my old CPU utilization graph made with RRDtool. It was mostly pastel-coloured, not too pretty but functional. It displayed CPU load (split in user, kernel, I/O-wait, SoftIRQ/IRQ) temperetures of the CPU, the northbridge and my nVidia graphics card (for the time that I used their binary driver that is), load average on the past 15, 5 and 1 minute and also the current numeber of processes. (Anyone interested in an example? :-D)
